IS THIS LARP FOR ME?
A core part of the vision for The Last Call is to flip the sexist, racist and often homophobic writings of H. P. Lovecraft on their head. We do this by focusing on the usual antagonists, the cultists, and treating them as human beings who are at least somewhat relatable once you understand their position and situation.
This does not mean the cultists behave in ways the outside world would find acceptable. Far from it. When you are inside the bubble of a doomsday cult guided by an unknowable eldritch creature, the veneer of civilized behaviour breaks down very quickly.
Because of this, you should expect to be part of, or even instigate, some of the most heinous acts imaginable. Please read the list below and consider whether there are themes or actions you cannot engage with, either actively or passively. If you find several that do not fit your sensibilities, then this larp is probably not for you.
You will always have tools to calibrate intensity and to opt out of any interaction or scene you are uncomfortable with.

ON SEXUAL THEMES IN PLAY
H. P. Lovecraft's writings are full of anxiety and disgust around sexuality. We believe this must be handled consciously and with maturity by both organizers and players.
This larp will explore a range of adult themes that are simulated in a realistic way. Participants will always retain full control over their own bodies and will have clear tools to set and communicate boundaries.
Leaving sexual themes out entirely would make this story less honest. We are playing human beings who have given themselves to a god that breaks minds and warps bodies. Mythos cultists commit the most twisted and heinous acts they can imagine, and that includes the sexual and the sensual. Part of the power of this larp lies in daring to look at that corruption directly, and then choosing how deep you want to go into it in play.
You may be invited to witness or take part in scenes that include, but are not limited to: nudity, ritualistic and ordinary sexual activity, eroticized violence, gentle intimacy, intense desire, non-consensual sexual activity represented through simulation, lack of autonomy, inhuman sexual behaviour and ritualized group sexuality.
These themes are never included for shock value alone. They are there to support character journeys, religious devotion, horror and transformation. You will always be able to calibrate your own level of engagement.
CONCERNING GENDER
All genders and sexualities are welcome at this larp.
Characters are written without fixed gender, so each participant is free to decide how much of their lived experience, identity and queerness they want to bring into play. We are not erasing these realities. We are honouring them while allowing every player to decide how strongly these aspects shape their character's journey.
As the cultists draw closer to their god, the boundaries of gender and desire will begin to dissolve. The constructs of mortal flesh fall away and devotion opens the self to a more fluid state of being, where attraction, longing and worship move beyond simple human categories.
Though some still call Cthulhu "he", the Great Old One has no gender and no fixed form. The cult recognizes this truth. To follow the gods is to embrace an identity that can be unbound and shifting, and to surrender to a devotion that is fluid and eternal.
CALIBRATION
Before the larp begins, there will be extensive mandatory workshopping and discussion of these themes. This is where we prepare to summon gods and horrors, and just as importantly, where we make sure that what happens in play is safe and carefully calibrated.
Your body is always your own. You choose whom to touch. You decide who may touch you. You may step away from any scene at any time, for any reason. No explanation is needed. There will be a space outside the play area where you can take a break from the fiction whenever you need.
DO I HAVE TO PARTICIPATE IN EVERYTHING?
The themes listed on this page will be present in the larp, but they are not essential to every single character arc.
You need to be able to engage with most of them at least passively, but you can choose, for example, to always opt out of being an active part of the more sensual or sexual elements. You can fully take part in the larp, immerse yourself and experience its emotional depth without directly engaging in every theme.
At the same time, we as organizers would be irresponsible if we did not address these themes openly and treat them with the thoughtful, mature approach they demand.
ALCOHOL
Real alcohol will be served at meals and will be available during the larp. You will also be able to purchase alcohol in the small kiosk on the island if you wish.
Any participant who is deemed too intoxicated to participate safely and responsibly will be removed from play.
